Zografou is a beach on the east coast of Sithonia
, about 10 km south of Vourvourou
. It lies between the coves of Lacara and Bahia
and it is accessible via dirt road which deviates from the main road which runs along the sea. The deviation is the same which leads to Bahia so you should watch for signboards of Zografou and Bahia.
Zografou is not freely accessible and that usually drives back visitors. It is managed by the Porto Elea campsite and in order to reach it, you have to pay entrance fee (EUR 3 per person). The entrance to Zografou is closed by a barrier and the greenery around hides the beach from the eyes so some people miss it and go to Bahia instead, or they think that the beach is private and only for the campsite guests. After you leave the car, you need to cross the common area of the campsite to reach the beach.
Larger part of the beach is occupied by the sunbeds and parasols provided by the campsite, and there is also a small free space to rest your towel under the shade of green trees. It is surrounded by cliffs from both sides which protects it from strong winds and there is also a small pier for those who come by boat. The sea water here has the saturated blue-green color which characterizes the rest beaches in this area as well (Bahia, Manassu and Banana). The sand is mixed with pebbles and the sea bottom is rocky and deep around the shore, not suitable for small kids but perfect for snorkeling.A bit north of Zografou there is a small isolated beach without any facilities. It cannot be accessed from Zografou, you need to get back on the dirt road before the campsite and watch for a tiny deviation which leads to the isolated beach in 500 meters.
