Vathi

Vathi is a charming small village on the southwest coast of Sifnos. Despite its relatively remote location from other villages on the island, it has developed as a resort with accommodation and eating options. The only five star hotel on Sifnos - a large complex with rooms, private villas and swimming pools - is also there.

The village lies in a bay shaped as the letter Omega (Ω) and has a long sandy beach with shallow water around the shore and sunset view. The place is safe for anchoring and protected from wind so some cruise boats stop here for a break. Everything in Vathi is right in front of the sea or a little behind it, because there are no streets or alleys - the road which leads to the village ends at a parking lot near the harbor and the church of Taxiarches. The few tavernas which spread their tables on the sand are known for the fresh fish and delicious local cuisine, and you can often see tourists and locals to come here just for dinner. There is only one beach bar so far, but you can always find a spot under some of the trees. In the summer the super market of the village is well supplied with food, drinks, fruits and vegetables, snacks, beachwear and accessories.

Apollonia is 10 km away from Vathi, within less than 20 minutes drive. The whole area between Vathi and Kamares to the north is hilly and not populated, a real paradise for hikers with its trails, panoramic views, lonely chapels and hidden beaches. If you head south of the village, you can visit the southernmost point of Sifnos and the beautiful blue beach of Fikiada.
