Platis Gialos

Platis Gialos is a resort village on the south coast of Sifnos, with a long sandy beach. It is populated only in the summer and offers a choice of hotels, villas, restaurants and beach bars, as well as marina for small boats and yachts.

Platis Gialos is 8 km away from Apollonia, the capital of the island, and 14 km away from the port of Kamares. The beach is narrow but long, with shallow sea bottom and covered with soft sand. There are both larger hotels and small complexes with rooms to rent but you should keep in mind that there is no pedestrian area in the village, and the main road separates most of the hotels from the beach. The restaurants are concentrated at the beachfront.

Nearby you can visit two interesting monasteries - the Monastery of Chrisopigi on a rocky peninsula, and the Monastery of Panagia tou Vounou with panoramic view of Platis Gialos. The ruins of Aspros Pyrgos (The White Tower), one of the most historically significant towers of island, are located above the main road before the village entrance. Also, there are numerous hiking trails around Platis Gialos which lead to unknown beaches in the undeveloped south part of the island, or to other villages in proximity.
