The Monastery of Archangel Michael is built on a cliff above the sea, located on the southeastern coast of the island between
Astris and Alyki. Its foundation dates back to 13 century and it is the biggest monastery on the islands, attracting many tourists not only for the old church and museum but also for the beautiful gardens and terrace with view of the sea.
The most valuable thing that can be seen in the religious collection of the Monastery is a part of the Holy Nail from the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The monastery is female and the nuns strictly observe for the dress code - long skirts and covered shoulders for women and long trousers for men. If you are not dressed properly, you will be given clothes at the entrance of the monastery.
