Nea Kameni Island
Nea Kameni is a small uninhabited volcanic island in the middle of the sunken Santorini caldera, between Santorini and Thirasia. It is almost round in shape and visibly black. Next to it is the smaller island of Palea Kameni, of the same volcanic origin.
The only way to reach Nea Kameni is via organized boat trip or rented boat. If you come with an organized trip, there will be a guide who will tell you interesting facts about the caldera and the volcano and will take you to the top of it to see the craters. Boats stop at the small pier of Nea Kameni and after that you need to continue on foot. The distance from the pier to the largest crater on the top is about 1 km. You should always walk only on the paths and avoid touching the big boulders around you because some of them are really hot.
The view from the top of the island to Santorini is magnificent and you can observe the volcano in all of its beauty.
