Kalamaki is relatively new resort on Zakynthos island. In the past it was just a holiday area with some hotels but today it has developed as a small touristic village. It is located in the bay of Laganas but the long empty space between them is occupied only by big sandy areas, part of the National Marine Park. Kalamaki is the closest village to the airport and Zakynthos Town is also just 5 km away.
Kalamaki has restaurants, shops and cafes concentrated along the main road which comes from Zakynthos Town and goes to Laganas. The beach however, is not very close to the main road, the distance is about 600-700 meters. Many of the hotels are situated closer to the sea and some tavernas can be found there, too, but most of the public facilities are next to the main road.
The resort is preferred mostly by families with kids, being a calmer place both in the day and in the evening, compared to the neighbor Laganas and Argassi. In Kalamaki there is also a big entertainment center for kids with plenty of games and fun. The beach has fine sand and shallow water like the other beaches in Laganas bay. Some of the beach hotels provide sunbeds and parasols for their guests.
