Cape Evreokastro

The cape and the beach bar from the air

Evreokastro (Evraiokastro) is a small cape in the northeasternmost part of Limenas town, Thassos. You can reach it after you pass the old harbor and Limanaki beach.

Evreokastro is neither officially listed as a sightseeing of the island nor offered as a point of interest but it is good for a walk and has nice views of the harbor. On the cape there is a coffee bar called Karnagio which functions as a beach bar during the day and as a night club with a pleasant terrace for evening drinks. The sunbeds and parasols of the bar are on platforms as there is no sand here, only rocks.

As its name suggests (”kastro” means ”castle”) Evreokastro was part of the Acropolis and excavations in the area have revealed ruins of buildings, columns, etc. Next to the cape rises up the tiny church of Agii Apostoli where you can also see ancient ruins, and the wide coastal path which passes by it leads to the Ancient Theater. The terraced rocks of the cape gradually slope down to the sea and it is easy to walk on them but this is at your own risk.
