Tafoni

Tafoni

Faneromeni bay in the southernmost part of Antiparos is characterized by rock formations of volcanic origin. These formations are called "tafoni" in Greek but on the map you can see them marked as "Ubini rocks".

The formations occupy the coast in front of Faneromeni church which overlooks Paros island. Do not confuse it with Faneromeni beach which is on the other side of the church and overlooks Despotiko islet. The tafoni rocks are visible from the church as the sea is very close, there is also a tiny sandy beach below. You can easily walk on them because they are porous and predominantly flat around the shore. At some places the rocks look like honeycomb which is a result of the years of exposure to winds and water.
