Skiadi

Skiadi rock formation

Skiadi is a rock formation in the shape of a giant mushroom. It is a rare geological phenomenon, consisting of both soft and hard rocks. In the coarse of years the strong winds have lead to erosion of the soft rock, gradually shaping the mushroom in its current appearance.

The stone mushroom is located in the west part of Kimolos and accessible only by foot. In order to reach Skiadi, you should follow the road which goes from Chorio Kimolou to the church of Agia Ekaterini in the middle of the island. At some point you will have to leave the car and then continue on foot via slightly ascending path. The hike takes approximately 30 minutes from the point where you can leave the car or more if you come by foot from the village.

Skiadi is almost 3 meters high. There is nothing around it and you should avoid going in the hottest hours of the day because there is no shade on the way up to it.
