Katafyki Cave

Katafygi cave

Katafyki Cave is the most interesting sight of Kythnos island. It is located in the village of Dryopida and easy to reach by foot.

Katafyki (sometimes spelled Katafygi) is a natural underground cave but in the past it was also used by the locals as a copper mine and some sections of it are man-carved galleries. It looks small and low but in fact it is quite spacious inside. The cave is open to the public, illuminated and relatively comfortable for a walk. You can make a 15-minute tour with a guide who will explain you about the cave history and answer any questions you have.

The entrance is free of charge, however any donations are appreciated. The temperature inside the cave is 17 degrees all year round, so make sure you wear a light jacket with you.
