Byzantine Tower of Ouranoupoli
The byzantine tower of Ouranoupoli is also known as the tower of Andronikos or tower of the Prosphorion. There is no chance to miss it - it is right by the sea and next to the port.
It is supposed that the tower was built in 13 century by Emperor Andronikos II Paleologos who granted it to the Vatopedy Monastery. In the beginning of 20 century it was used to shelter refugees from Turkey and later it was the temporary dwelling of Joice and Sydney Loch, an English-Australian couple who was engaged in humanitarian work and also owned a carpet-weaving factory in the village.
Today the tower of Ouranoupoli functions as a museum and visitors can take a tour inside.
