Monastery of Hozoviotissa
The monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa is a spectacular white building carved in a rock almost 300 meters above the sea level. It is located on the south coast of the island, near Amorgos Chora, and offers memorable views toward the endless blue sea.
Today the monastery is maintained by three monks who live there and accept visitors. The road for cars reaches the lower part of the rock where the monastery is carved, after that you need to continue on foot and climb up to the entrance on a steep paved path with 360 steps.
There is no entrance fee but donations are welcome. You also must observe the dress code to enter - proper shoes, covered shoulders, long trousers and long shirts. If you are not properly dressed, the monks will borrow you clothes for the tour inside. The monastery is closed from 13:00 do 17:00 the afternoon.
