Amorgos Chora

Amorgos Chora, or just Chora, is the charming capital of Amorgos. It is located in the center of the island, 5 km away from the port of Katapola.

Amorgos Chora is considered one of the most picturesque and photogenic island capitals in the Aegean sea. It has the typical Cycladic architecture in white and blue, variegated by the bright-colored chairs and tables of the village tavernas, and by the crimson flowers in front of the houses. The narrow alleys inside Chora are car-free and maze-like, and if you stroll around you will get to the top of the village with ruins of a Venetian castle.

The windmills of Amorgos are on a hill opposite the castle and you can reach them by foot from the village. Near Amorgos Chora is the most impressive monastery of the Cyclades - the Monastery of Hozoviotissa.
