Ladadika

Early evening at Morichovou square

Ladadika is a pedestrian area with historical buildings, some of which have been restored and today function as coffee houses, tavernas with live music performances and pubs. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the center of Thessaloniki, located close to the port and Aristotle`s square.

In the past Ladadika used to be a commercial quarter with warehouses and shops for olive oil and food products. It was almost devastated by the Great Fire in 1917 and after that it was abandoned and fell into decay for tens of years. In the end of 20 century the neighborhood slowly woke up for a new life. The old two-storey houses were restored and turned into eateries, and many new hotels were built around Ladadika, attracting tourists.

Today there are still many abandoned places in the neighborhood but it is a popular and lively spot both for lunch and dinner. The Museum of Illusions is located in Ladadika.
