Kechrovouni Monastery

The monastery of Kechrovouni, devoted to Virgin Mary, is located near the village or Arnados. It is large and resembles a small Cycladic village, with separate buildings connected via alleys and tunnels.

The monastery is well-maintained, with beautiful views and accepts visitors daily in certain hours. Most of them come to see the cell of Agia Pelagia - a nun who lived there in 19 century and had a strange dream about Virgin Mary telling her how to find a buried icon. The icon was dug out from the foundations of a ruined church and today it is known as the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary of Tinos, housed in Panagia Evangelistria in Tinos Chora.
