Kastro Skiathos

Ancient castle

Kastro occupies a rocky peninsula on the north coast of Skiathos. It is visited mainly because of the magnificent sea views revealed from the top of it. Beware that the place has no fences and it is not suitable for small kids.

The settlement of Kastro was established by the local residents of Skiathos in 14 century, compelled to move there by the constant pirate attacks. In 19 century, the residents of Kastro moved back to Skiathos Town and took all materials from their houses. For this reason, today you can see just ruins from old churches and walls.

Kastro is accessible on foot, via narrow path which starts from the parking lot for cars. The path continues for about 200 meters until it reaches the beginning of the peninsula, and after that there are 300 more meters to the end.
