Anafonitria Monastery

The monastery of Panagia Anafonitria (Anafonitria in short) is located in the northwest past of Zakynthos, close to the observation spot of Navagio beach. It dates back to the Byzantine period and probably it was built around 15 century.

Today only the church in the middle of the monastery complex is into operation but the old belfry tower welcomes visitors. Many people come here to see the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary which was found in a cave before the construction of the monastery.
