Regione Imathia

Imathia Region is located between Olympic Riviera (Pieria) to the south, Kozani Region to the west, Pella Region to the north and Thessaloniki Region to the east. The capital city of the region is Veroia.
Imathia is named after the historic region Emathia which in ancient times was a synonym for Bottiaea or even all of Macedon. During the centuries the area was part of the Macedonian Kingdom, the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire. Since 1913 it is part of Greece.
Near Veroia is the tomb of Phillip II of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great.
