Venetian Castle of Assos

The castle dominating the village

This Venetian castle dominates over the peninsula of Assos, Kefalonia. It was built by a Venetian architect in the end of 16 century, when the island was under Venetian rule.

The castle is accessible via paved path with a length of 1.5 km, starting from the public parking lot of Assos. The route is steep and it is not very comfortable in hot days, but even if you don`t walk all the way up to the castle, you will be awarded with spectacular views to the bay of Assos from different points of the path. The castle is open to the public and has no entrance fee. There are also no cafes or shops nearby so bringing water with you is important.
