Kamilari is an inland village in south Crete, just a few kilometers from the seaside resort of Kalamaki. Unlike the resort which is entirely tourist-oriented, locals live in the village all year round, although not a large number. Most houses are old and in the typical Cretan architecture, and in the last few years many private villas and holiday homes appeared in and around Kamilari. Its proximity to the long beach of Kalamaki is combined with the calmness and the genuine spirit provoked by the lifestyle of the locals. In the center of Kamilari there are a few pleasant tavernas and cafes which are not refine but tempt with the homelike atmosphere and tasty meals.
The famous Matala beach is 8 km away, as the road passes through the village of Pitsidia.
