Vamvaka
Vamvaka (sometimes referred to as Bambaka - Μπάμπακα) is a semi-mountainous village on the west side of Mani, Peloponnese. It is situated on a road that runs parallel to the main road between Mezapos and Pyrgos Dirou. The village consists of a few dozen houses and Maniot stone towers. Some of the old buildings are renovated and there also newer buildings, with traditional local architecture, of white-gray stone and fortress like appearance. Vamvaka is surrounded by olive groves which are traversed by stone fences.
At the upper end of Vamvaka, just behind the last houses, a very old church can be seen - the 11th century church of Agii Theodori. In the church a coin was found from the powerful Frankish prince William of Villehardouin. Due to its elevated position, Vamvaka has nice views of the valley and the sea, which is 2 km away. The valley is dotted with small settlements, tall Maniot towers, old churches and traversed with dirt roads and walking paths.
