Neo Chorio

Although Neo Chorio means ”new village”, it is an old settlement with traditional stone houses, today mixed with newer buildings. It is located in the Apokoronas area, close to the village of Armeni. The seaside resort of Kalyves is just 5 km away.

Neo Chorio is built on a hill overlooking the fertile valley in which Armeni is situated. Above the village rise up the ruins of a small fortress known as Koules, meaning ”tower” in Turkish as it was built by the Turks on the place of preexisting Venetian tower. Neo Chorio is relatively big for inland village and except for tavernas, it has mini markets and a pharmacy.

Note there is one more settlement called Neo Chorio in Chania Region but it is located near Kissamos and Falasarna and it is quite smaller.
