Angelokastro

Approaching the castle

Angelokastro is one of the most important Byzantine castles in Greece. It is located in the northwestern part of Corfu, on the top of a rock rising 305 m above the sea, and many people come to see it because of the spectacular panoramic view to the bays of Paleokastritsa and the north part of the island.

In order to reach Angelokastro, you have to pass through the center of the village of Krini. The road is narrow and some turns are very sharp but there are enough signboards to lead you to the castle once you have found Krini.

When you arrive, you will reach a small parking lot with cafe and a ticket booth where tickets are sold (entrance fee is approximately EUR 3 per adult). From here you must continue on foot. Three sides of the castle are protected by rocks which slope down precipitously and there is only one way up - a path with many steps. In the inner part of the castle there is an acropolis, a church devoted to Archangel Michail and ruins of a tower, garrison and graves.
