Alonnisos Chora
Alonnisos Chora is the old capital of the island, located 4 km away from the sea. In 1965 the village was ruined by a strong earthquake and many of its residents moved down to the seaside. Some 40 years later many of the houses were bought by foreigners and restored, tavernas re-opened and today Chora lives a new life.
The village is built amphitheatrically on a hill. Large part of it is car-free and the narrow alleys lead to tavernas and cafes, some have sea views, others have placed their tables between the colorful houses. There are also shops for hand-made products, small hotels and guest houses.
Alonissos Chora can be reached both by car and via a cobbled path which starts from Patitiri. The hike takes approximately 40 minutes.
