Top 3 beaches оn Ammouliani island

A small island named Ammouliani lies just off the coast of Mount Athos and attracts curious tourists like a magnet. It is a popular destination for day long excursions and short summer vacations. The island is connected with Mount Athos via ferryboat line which runs from Tripiti port and transports both people and vehicles. Ships travel often and tickets are affordable (around 10 euro for car and 2.20 euro for adult or child over 5).

Often people come to visit the island for a day, especially if they are spending their vacation in the nearby villages of Nea Roda, Ouranoupoli, Ierissos or the bigger hotel resorts in this part of Halkidiki. Visitors without own transport are usually stranded in Ammouliani Town and only visit the few small beaches that are within the village or next to it. The most popular beach of Ammouliani, Alikes, is on the western coast of the island, just 1 km away from the village. It is a crescent-shape sandy bay with shallow water, very suitable for small kids. In the summer it has a campsite and a few beach bars. In the area there are some houses and apartments to rent.

Megali Ammos

The Big Sand still empty

Megali Ammos (meaning "big sand") is the southernmost beach of Ammouliani. In is located on the southeastern coast of the island, with view of the Drenia islets and the tower of Ouranoupoli on the mainland. Part of the road going to this beach is unpaved but the access is easy. The beach has fine sand like all the rest beaches of Ammouliani. In the summer there a couple of beach bars offering sunbeds and umbrellas and one tavern overlooking the sea.

Karagatsia

Karagatsia beach lies on the northwest coast of Ammouliani, surrounded by two green hills. It can be reached via a good paved road, at a distance of 2 km from the village. Karagatsia is entirely sandy, and the water is very transparent. There is a seasonal canteen (July and August) providing drinks and sunbeds. No accommodation is available in the area as there are no buildings except for a few private villas.
