Sivros

Old Byzantine church

Sivros is a village on the mountain slopes above Vasiliki bay, Lefkada. The place is popular with its over twenty springs and watermills, as well as the olive museum. The surrounding mountain slopes are covered with greenery, patches of trees, olive groves and traversed by hidden hiking trails. A trip down to Vassiliki takes around 13 minutes (6.5km). Sivota, Poros and Nydri can be reached within 20 minutes by car.

Sivros maintains a good balance between being both agricultural village and a tourist destination. There are villas and holiday homes, but not too many of them, so even during the summer the tourists are less than the local inhabitants. Very few tourists pass through the village by chance but these brave souls are well reworded with the hospitality and delicious meals by the local tavernas. In the center of the village is the stone paved square decorated with a fountain and lined with tables from the near restaurant.

Nearby places worth a visit are the Cave of Karoucha, the springs of Kerasia, the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Sto Rodaki and the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos (the oldest Byzantine Church in Lefkada).
