Sfinari

Sfinari

Sfinari is the name of a beach on the west coast of Crete, between Falassarna and Elafonisi. Around the beach a small settlement has developed, mainly with rooms to rent, villas, restaurants and mini markets. The closest larger village is Platanos, 10 km to the north.

The beach of Sfinari is long and pebbled with low-grown trees at the back. In the summer there are limited sunbeds and parasols (more than enough considering the number of visitors), and from the beach you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. Because of its remoteness campers can often be seen but there is plenty of space for everyone. A few km south of Sfinari a dirt road will lead you to the pebbly cove of Platanakia, with deep blue water and rocks in the sea. All the beaches nearby are pebbled or rocky, suitable for isolation and full rest. The sandy beach of Elafonisi is 30 km away.
