Rethymno Region

The Rethymno Reigon is located between those of Chania (to the west) and Heraklion (to the east). Its total area is 1 496 km2, with population of 86 532. This is the most mountainous region of Crete, with oak and pine forests and pastures. Many of its beaches are awarded Blue Flag, especially the ones in the southern part.

The capital and largest city in the region of Rethymno is the city of Rethymno, situated in the northern part.
