Potistika

The beach in a cloudy day

Potistika is a large beach on the southeast coast of Pelion. It is part of a series of large coves reachable from the inland village of Xinovrysi, near Argalasti.

Potistika is sandy, mixed with pebbles and stones, and the most interesting part of it are the multicolored rocks around the beach- you can see red, green and violet hues. Its exotic look is complemented by the enormous piece of rock sticking out of the sea just next to the shore. The sea bottom is not very shallow, although it slopes gently, and in windy weather big waves may appear but overall it is a place not to miss. Sunbeds and parasols to rent are available during the summer, provided by a beach bar and there is lots of free space even for naturists which usually prefer the south end of Potistika.

North of Potistika, within short distance, are the beaches of Mortitsa and Kommos, accessible via a narrow coastal road. The beach south of Potistika is called Melani and despite it looks very close, both are separated by a large sea cliff. In order to reach it, you should take a narrow path which first climbs up the rock and then descends down. Unfortunately there is no good short road connecting these two beaches and if you want to visit Melani by car, you cannot do it from Potistika - you should first go back to Xinovrysi and then take a road near Paltsi.
