Located on a hill above
Almyrida, Plaka is just 2 km from the beach. It is a n old village which has rapidly grown up in the last few years, with new buildings and hotels on the way down to Almyrida, trending to merge with the seaside resort soon.
Like a typical island village, Plaka has a square with tavernas and cafes, a church and traditional old houses in the central area. Mini markets, a bakery and a gas station can also be found. The new hotels and villas are built in the outskirts of the village, overlooking the bay of Almyrida and the nearby
Kalyves. The traditional villages of Apokoronas like
Gavalochori,
Douliana and
Vamos are very close, as well as the wild Cape Drapano with isolated rocky coves, away from populated areas.
