Pefkos

View from the east coast road

Pefkos is a beach with transparent blue-green water on the west coast of Skyros island. Its name comes from the Greek word "pefko" which means "pine" and as soon as you approach it you will understand why - this area of Skyros is full of pine trees and their delicate scent is in the air all around.

Pefkos lies in a sheltered bay, with a small fishing port right next to. The beach has a mixture of sand and pebbles, as there are entirely sandy patches around the shore. There are some rocks in the water at the south end but most part of the sea bottom is covered with soft sand. Sunbeds and parasols are provided by a beach kiosk in the summer, and at the fishing port there is also a seasonal taverna.

Accommodation is still very limited around Pefkos.
