Paralia Tyros

View from the road

The settlement of Tyros is located under the Parnon mountain and its location by the sea has started to attract tourists in the last two decades. The older village with the older houses is on the slopes of the mountain but the new settlement has developed along the sea and it is known as Paralia Tyros (or Tyros beach). Like in Leonidio, which is 20 km away, the Tsakonian language is also spoken here along with Greek.

Paralia Tyros has one long pebbled beach along which one will find some cafeterias and tavernas with tables right by the sea. Although the village has about 2000 permanent residents, most public facilities are open only in summer. Accommodation is available in small hotels and rooms to rent. The place is visited mainly by mature couples and nature lovers since there is not much activity - Tyros guarantees calm and very quiet holiday. People with children should keep in mind that the sea is not very shallow around the shore.

Except for the village beach, there are two more beaches south and north of Paralia Tyros. The north one is called Tigani and has two beach cafes which provide parasols and sunbeds. The south one, Lygeria, is not organized and almost deserted because the last 100 meters to the beach should be taken on foot, on a small hill sloping down to the sea.
