Paralia Katerini

Sunrise at the pier

Paralia Katerini (meaning the beach of Katerini) is a popular beach resort 70 km south of Thessaloniki, in Pieria. Its name is actually just Paralia, but in Greece there are many paralias (The Greek word for ”beach”) so it should be clear that this is the paralia of Katerini. The town of Katerini is 8 km from the resort and it has no beach.

Paralia Katerini is located in the Olympic Riviera - the name of the seaside area of the region. Both cheap and expensive hotels can be found, and the resort is full of shops, bakeries, fast food restaurants, taverns, cafes and discos. In the summer it gets really busy.

The beach is Blue Flag awarded, three kilometers long, wide in some places and narrow in other. It is sandy, without stones and the water is shallow. There are some water sports and diving lessons available, and for the youngest tourists there is a small water park.
