Paleokastritsa

View from the road

Paleokastritsa is one of the most popular resorts of Corfu, situated on the west coast and known as the most beautiful place of the island. It is located about 30 km from the capital Corfu Town, surrounded by green hills on the background of brilliant blue sea. Its scenic coastline is rich in rock formations, sea caves and tiny beaches, and breathtaking views are revealed from almost any place of the resort.

The resort is large and you can find all you need for your holiday, although everything is a bit scattered and distances in it are not quite short. There are several large hotels and many small family hotels with studios to rent and villas. There are cafes, fish taverns and restaurants and many bars. On the top of a hill above the sea you can visit the beautifully painted Paleokastritsa Monastery from 17th century.

The beaches of the resort are several in number, bays with narrow strips of sand and/or pebbles. These are Agia Triada, Platakia, Alipa, Agios Spyridon (the central beach), Agios Petros and Ambelaki. Except for Ambelaki, in the summer they are all organized with sunbeds and parasols. Between the beaches there are other spots for swimming or snorkeling like La Grotta and Verderosa, and some of the villas and hotels have direct access to the sea. In the rocks around the beaches there are caves that can be visited by boat (like the Yellow Submarine boat with its glass bottom). Water sports and diving lessons are available and daily boat trips are organized to secluded beaches in the area.

About 7 km above Paleokastritsa, after the village of Lakones, you will find the so called Bella Vista - a spot with panoramic view of the picturesque coast around.
