Old Windmills

The traditional windmills of Ios are located in Ios Chora and you can often see them on photos of the island. At night both the village and the windmills are well illuminated. They can be visited near the north hill, on the way to Manganari beach.

According to some sources, the windmills are twelve in number but they are not all a line. You can count up to ten, as the rest two are probably nearby but hidden among private homes or lack parts of their construction. The windmills are not functioning anymore but they are considered symbol of the island and some of them are already restored to their original outlook.
