Nea Roda

The village at sunset

Nea Roda is a small village with fishing harbor located in the narrowest part of the Mount Athos. It overlooks the bay of Ierrios and the entire peninsula. In 480 BC. the Persian King Xerxes dug a canal at this place to shorten the way of his fleet but now only traces of the canal can be seen because it is covered by sediments.

Nea Roda is a calm resort with various hotels and a nice promenade with tavernas and cafes. The village beach is not very large but it is sandy and there are facilities like sunbeds and parasols provided by beach bars. Nearby there are more beaches which can be easily reached by foot or within 5-10 minutes drive - Voulitsa, Komitsa and Legend beach.
