The scenic beach of Makris Gialos lies on the north coast of the island, between Alykes
and Agios Nikolaos
port. It is pebbly beach with crystal clear blue water but the most interesting thing about it is the group of sea caves in the cliffs around the beach. Some of the caves are right on the beach and have a small strip of pebbles, others can be visited only by swimming but the landscape is amazing.
The main road going to the northernmost part of Zakynthos
passes by Makris Gialos and a few steps lead down to the beach. A limited number of sunbeds and parasols is available in July and August. Above the beach there are a few tavernas for traditional Greek dishes, and apartments to rent.
