Makrades

Private residence

Makrades is an old village in northwest Corfu, next to Krini and Angelokastro. The central part of Paleokastritsa with its scenic beaches is 9 km away from here.

The road which goes to Angelokastro passes by Makrades but does not enter the village. On a cross road you will see a few shops for souvenirs and local products like olive oil, herbs and honey but in order to see the real village you should follow the sign pointing to Makrades for 300 more meters. The village is small but charming, with authentic old houses and narrow alleys between them. A few cafeterias at the center offer fresh coffee, drinks, snacks and local pies. For those who want to stay longer in the calm atmosphere of the place, there are a few guest houses.

Near Makrades starts the Donkey Path (Gaidouro monopati) - it is a cobbled footpath following the clifftop above the west coast and leading to Agios Georgios - North. This path is part of the Corfu trail, 220-kilometer long-distance walking route which covers the south, west and north part of the island.
