Loutraki is the second major port of the island and all the ferries and hydrofoils from Volos and Skiathos stop here as well, on their way to Skopelos Town and Alonnisos. In the past it was known as Selenounda and its nowadays name suggests the presence of mineral springs (loutra - mineral bath). Indeed, remains of Roman baths were found in the area and some temple ruins can still be seen. In the past Loutraki was just a harbor to serve the village of Glossa but it is now developing as a small resort being by the sea. It has hotels with sea view, non-pretentious rooms to rent, super market and a couple of tavernas around the port. There are two pebbly beaches on both sides of the port but they are much exposed to north winds due to the open location of Loutraki.
