Lefkada Town

From the other side of the bridge

The capital of Lefkada, which has the same name as the island (locals call it Lefkas), is the first place you see when you reach the island through the floating bridge. It is situated on a small peninsula and is the most populated town in Lefkada.

The town has a historical center with square, old houses, churches and narrow alleys. Along the promenade there are many cafes with view of the sea and mainland Greece.

The Blue Flag beach of Lefkada town is a few kilometers away from it, in the area of Agios Ioannis where most of the hotels and studios are located. The beach is called Gyra and there you can see the remains of some authentic windmills and the ruins of the castle of Agia Mavra (Santa Maura) which once protected the island. This area is exposed to winds and there are usually waves suitable for kitesurfing.
