Lazarata

Lazarata

Lazarata is a village in Sfakiotes locality, 10 km away from Lefkada Town and just a few km from the large mountainous village of Karya. It is surrounded by hills covered with trees, bushes, vineyards and small patches of farmland.

Lazarata has traditional look and feel, with houses built of stone, windows with wooden covers and roofs with light brown tiles. The stone paved squares are lined with tall trees and get alive in the evening when locals go out for a walk. Tavernas and shops can be found mostly along the main street.

There are a few villas and holiday homes for rent which are either old renovated houses or new buildings in traditional style. The location is not a popular place for tourists because it is not at the seaside. People visit Lazarata to enjoy calm, idyllic and tranquil vacation away from the everyday hassle.

Lazarata must-see places are the two old churches of Agios Dionissios and Agios Spyridonas, each over 150 years old. Agios Spyridonas is the older of the two, it has pained icon of Archangel Michael over its door and is known for the 3-storey bell tower.
