Kounoupia

The very small village of Kounoupia is built on a high slope of Parnonas mountain, in Arcadia Region, Peloponnese. Like Kosmas, its location reveals a great panoramic view of the entire area and the seaside in the distance but there are no other similarities between both of them. Konoupia is unknown to tourists and has no facilities like restaurants and cafes, neither hotels or guesthouses. It is a bit aside from the road connecting Leonidio with South Peloponnese, and actually you will pass by it without entering the village.

The houses in Konoupia are quite old and many of them seem empty and uninhabited. There is a small monastery in the village, called the Monastery of Dormition of the Mother of God but we are not sure if it accepts visitors at all. The paved road passing through the village ends in the north end of Konoupia and turns into unpaved one - it goes up the slope and then descends to the other side, leading to the nearby village of Vlisidia which is even less visited. The distance is approximately 4 km so hikers may find it pleasant for a walk.
