Koumbara

Koumbara (Koumpara) is a beach on Ios island which is progressively gathering popularity with its fancy beach club. It is located 2 km away from the beach of Gialos and the island port.

Koumbara lies between two rocky peninsulas and includes one larger beach and a few rocky coves. The larger beach is covered with sand and the water is shallow. However, the sea bottom around the peninsulas and the smaller coves is quite rocky. The palm trees at the back are maintained by the beach club with restaurant which rents sunbeds and beach cabanas. The place is a bit expensive and attracts mainly young visitors because of the swimming pool and the amenities. There is also a seafood taverna at Koumbara which rents sunbeds, so in July and August almost the entire beach is occupied.
