Kosmas

The village square

The village of Kosmas is built on a hill slope of the Parnonas mountain, approximately 30 km from Leonidio and the seaside. Because of its elevated location and panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, it is called ”the balcony of Kynouria”, Kynouria being the name of both the contemporary municipality and the ancient district in this part of Peloponnese.

Kosmas is also listed as a traditional settlement with stone houses and churches in the original architecture. The village has permanent residents all year round and despite its isolated location, it has even a school. The road which comes from Leonidio passes by the charming cobbled square where the tables of traditional tavernas and cafes are placed under the shade of high chestnut trees. In the summer tourists usually come here after their visit to the nearby Moni Elonis (14 km) to taste local dishes and breath cool fresh air in the heat.
