Kastelli

Kastelli is a inland village in Crete, 36 km southeast of Heraklion Town. The closest beaches are 20 km away, between Kato Gouves and Chersonissos.

The villages is very old and its name comes from a castle which no longer exists. The houses are old and in the typical Cretan architecture, with narrow streets between them. There are cafes, taverns, bakeries and shops. In the center you can also find a pharmacy and bank office, so all basic goods and services are provided in the village. Almost no tourists come here except for a walk, or on the way to the south coast. Only a few accommodations are available but staying at Kastelli for your holiday will help you experience the lifestyle of the local residents.

Next to the village there is a small domestic airport.
