Kastania Cave

Information poster about the cave and routes from Neapoli

Kastania is one of the most impressive caves of Greece. It is located near the villages of Kato Kastania and Ano Kastania, around 10 kilometers from Neapoli, South Peloponnese.

The cave had formed in the late Jurassic period and was actually filled with limestone. During the centuries the weakly acidic water dissolved the limestone and deposited the material in peculiar shapes. Different chemicals colored that cave landscape and thus created a magical world. People can see different shapes that resemble columns, mushrooms, elephants, birds, plants, corals and more.

The two levels of the caves are traversed by a 500 meter long route. Near the cave entrance there are parking spaces for cars.
