Karya

Karya is a large mountainous village situated in the central part of Lefkada island. The village is away from the beaches and Lefkada Town but still has its own charm. In the past it was known as lace-making center and still there are craftsman shops which sell hand made lace and lace decorated clothes and dresses.

In the center of the village and along the main street there are many big plane trees. Narrow cobbled streets go in different directions and disappear between the stone built houses. The villas and hotels in Karya are few but there is a plenty of tavernas and coffee shops. Many tavernas are open all year and serve delicious food which is the reason why many locals visit the village to have a drink and enjoy a meal.

In August each summer there are local celebrations and reproduction of a traditional wedding ceremony.
