Kares
Kares is small village on the way from Chania Town to Chora Sfakion, close to the entrance of Imbros gorge. It lies in the Askifou plateau, surrounded by mountains, along with 3 other villages - Ammoudari, Petres and Goni. The plateau is dominated by the ruins of a small fortress, overlooking the entire region. The villages are very close to each other and distances between them are small, so sometimes they are altogether referred to as Askifou, as if they are one settlement. There are a few guesthouses, small hotels and villas to rent. Restaurants, cafes, bakery and super market can be found in Ammoudari which is the largest in size. The entrance to Imbros gorge is approximately 8 km from Kares.
