Kalamitsa

At sunset

Kalamitsa is a large cove on the west coast of Skyros, in the narrowest part of the island. It is 5 km away from Linaria, but the area is not developed and has only a dozen of small hotels with room to rent and one beach taverna.

The beach strip of Kalamitsa is long and narrow, covered with a mixture of sand and pebbles. The sea is usually calm here and there are hardly any other people, except for clients of the taverna. Nearby (on the way to Skyros Chora) you can visit the farm for this special breed of Skyrian horses which has a restaurant as well. South of Kalamitsa begins the uninhabited and wild half of the island, with barren hills and isolated rocky coves.
