Kalamaki

An alley near the plateia

The old village of Kalamaki lies in the east part of Pelion, at a distance of 3 km from the sea. It is away from the main road and thus it has remained away from the tourist flow, although it is a charming place with authentic atmosphere. Its location is in the middle of the peninsula and it is suitable for accommodation if you plan to explore both the north and south part of Pelion.

Kalamaki is built on the slopes of a hill and almost all the houses have sea view. The alleys are narrow and steep, some of them accessible only on foot and the buildings are in the traditional for the region architecture - made of stone, with grey stone tiles on the roof. Even the restored or newly built houses follow this architecture and contribute to the outlook of the village. At the tiny square, under the shade of a few high trees, there is only one taverna and one kafenion where the local residents get together. It is quiet and peaceful, perfect for those who want to spend their holidays in silence and closer to the less touristic beaches of Pelion.

A narrow but paved road lead leads down from the village to a beach with the same name. Kalamaki Beach is a small pebbly cove without facilities - no beach bars, sunbeds and parasols, bu the water is crystal clear and blue.
